Alex Miller received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science, summa cum laude, from St. Mary’s University of San Antonio, Texas in 1990. He obtained his Doctor of Jurisprudence, with honors, from the University of Texas School of Law in 1994. He is board certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in Civil Appellate Law.

After graduating from law school, Mr. Miller joined the firm of Plunkett, Gibson & Allen, Inc., and later practiced with Allen, Stein & Durbin, P.C., where he focused on first-party insurance coverage and civil appellate law. Mr. Miller joined Mikal Watts, in the San Antonio office, in 2001.

Mr. Miller is the head Watts Guerra Craft LLP’s appellate section. He has argued appeals before the Texas Supreme Court, the Fifth Circuit, the Federal Circuit, and Texas courts of appeals. Mr. Miller regularly speaks at continuing legal education seminars and has published articles on topics such as products liability, jury charge practice, joint and several liability, Rule 702 expert challenges, insurance coverage issues, appellate practice, and ethics of case referrals and representing multiple parties in litigation.

Mr. Miller is an “AV” peer review rated lawyer in the Martindale-Hubbell legal directory. He is a member of the Appellate Practice Section of the San Antonio Bar Association, (Chair 2003-04, Officer 2001-04), William S. Sessions American Inn of Court, San Antonio Bar Association – Court of Appeals Committee (Chair 2002-03), San Antonio Bar Foundation, State Bar of Texas, Texas Bar Foundation, and Fifth Circuit Bar. Mr. Miller was named by Texas Monthly as one of the “Texas Super Lawyer – Rising Stars” in 2007 and 2008 and by Scene in S.A. as one of the “Best Lawyers in San Antonio” in 2008. He is licensed to practice in the state courts of Texas, the United States District Courts for the Northern, Eastern, Western, and Southern Districts of Texasthe United States Courts of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and the Federal Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court.
