John G. Escamilla was born in Chicago, Illinois and raised in San Antonio, Texas.  He was educated at the University of Texas at Austin, where he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English and History in 1991, and a Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1995.  During law school, Mr. Escamilla received a Cain Foundation Public Interest Fellowship, clerked at Texas Rural Legal Aid in Weslaco, Texas, and served as Articles and Notes Editor for the Texas International Law Journal.

Mr. Escamilla has litigated and tried complicated commercial lawsuits between businesses involving breach of contract, fraud, negligence, and tortuous interference.  He has represented a wide array of clients, from car dealerships and other retailers involving franchise disputes, scientists and universities involved in research disputes, and oil well owners and service companies involving well damage and lost production.  He has recently represented clients in a workplace accident involving a misused forklift, a trucking crash caused by a careless interstate truck driver, a rollover accident caused by defective tires, a commercial dispute related to oilfield services that damaged an oil well, a lawsuit against a tire company involving its design, and a premises liability case in which three persons were fatally injured.

Mr. Escamilla brings an exceptional breadth of experience to the cases he handles because, in addition to his extensive trial practice, Mr. Escamilla has handled over thirty-five appellate matters.  He has been lead appellate counsel in state and federal actions, including interlocutory appeals, original proceedings, and appeals to various Texas appellate courts.  Among his appellate triumphs was convincing the Texas Supreme Court to affirm an exceptional liability finding and compensatory damage award well in excess of a million dollars in an employment discrimination case.

Apart from his litigation, Mr. Escamilla gives back to the legal community as a frequent speaker at legal education conferences (CLE) courses on a variety of litigation-related topics.  He has authored award-winning series of informative articles for the Hidalgo Bar Association’s monthly publication The Summons.
